It has come to my attention the use of a word in my recent letter to the editor (Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010) may have caused unintended hurt feelings among members of a specific audience: teachers.

Mary Karanasos died this past September a week after her 45th birthday. When her breast cancer was diagnosed last January, the disease had already metastasized into her lymph nodes, bones, liver and lungs.



That's the cold summary about the end of this sweet woman's life. But as with most good stories, you have to dig deeper to understand who a person is and why my 13-year-old son wanted to help her husband and 8-year-old daughter.
